If you love trying leggings from a different brand (like me), you must have heard of LuLaRoe. But haven’t you considered how good and trustworthy the LuLaRoe brand is?
Okay, today I will tell you everything about LuLaRoe by comparing it with one of the most reputable and my favourite brands, Lululemon.
Tabular Comparison Between LuLaRoe vs Lululemon

Who Started These Companies?
So the first question is, who started these companies and when?
LuLaRoe was started by a couple named DeAnna Brady and Mark Stidham in 2012, making California their headquarters.
Lululemon was started by Chip Wilson in 1998 in Vancouver, Canada.
How Do These Companies Work?
Lululemon runs as a regular retail business, while LuLaRoe uses the MLM method. Using MLM? Weirdo, Right? But they use.
Lululemon: A Regular Retail Business
As mentioned above, Lululemon runs regular retail and online stores. They have opened more than 500 stores worldwide, plus you can also purchase from their online stores.
They pay the employees regularly (unlike the MLM commission method). They sell directly to consumers without involving any third party.
LuLaRoe: The MLM Way
On the other hand, LuLaRoe uses the MLM (Multi-Level Marketing) technique to sell its products. In this, a regular person (like you and me) who buys their clothes recommends them to others. If your recommendation makes any sales, you get 5% from the direct recommendation and 3% if the recommended person recommends others.
If you see any business or earning opportunities, you need to spend around $5,000 to $6,000 and have direct influence. Still, there is no guarantee that you will make a penny.
To make it more tasty, they rank people like ‘Trainer’, ‘Coach’, and ‘Mentor’ to increase the number of MLM officers.
But I still won’t recommend that you go through this. MLM is a pyramid scheme, where the people at the top make money and the people at the bottom lose it. So, if you love any of LuLaRoe products, buy them, use them, and done. Not more than this.
What’s in a Name?
There is a specific story and meaning behind the names LuLaRoe and Lululemon, which is interesting to know.
- Lululemon is named after the letter L, and it is aimed at sounding more North American to Japanese consumers for better sales. Odd, right? But it works.
- LuLaRoe got the name from DeAnne’s (LuLaRoe co-founder) three granddaughters: Lucy, Lola, and Monroe. She mixed their names and made LuLaRoe.
Because the names of both sound similar, it doesn’t mean that they are the same. Many people are confused about whether LuLaRoe is a part of Lululemon or not. But that is not true; both are different and independent brands.
What Kind of Clothes Do They Sell?
LuLaRoe sells products like leggings, tunics, dresses, tops, and other casual wear. Similarly, Lululemon mainly focuses on aligned leggings, hoodies, and bras. While some products are the same, their quality differs a lot.
LuLaRoe
LuLaRoe is popular for its butter soft leggings, which is why I am writing today’s review. Other products they sell are tunics, tops, and casual wear, but who cares?
- The prints on their products are very wild. I don’t know why, but some people love it. But for me, that is very tacky.
- Some of the weird prints include “Stacks of eyelashes”, “pink big noses”, and “stacks of suffering”.
- Another thing I hate is that the LuLaRoe easily rips like a toilet paper, even when you do light exercise like jogging with it.
Lululemon: A Premium Workout Brand
Lululemon is a premium brand focusing on the quality and high-performance athletic wear made for yoga, running, and training.
Some of their popular and my favorite products include:
- Align Leggings
- Scuba Hoodies
- Sports Bras
- Yoga Mats
Don’t worry about the quality. Lululemon uses the Luon fabrics, which are breathable, stretchable, and best for workouts. Yeah, it is a little pricey, like leggings can cost you over $100, but remember you are paying for quality.
Who Buys From Each Brand?
I don’t know why someone buys from LuLaRoe. But most probably because of the cheap prices. Most moms and millennials buy from the LuLaRoe who work from home and don’t go for any workouts/
While Lululemon is purchased by modern fitness and athletic lovers like you and me, they are bought by both men and women.
Returns & Refunds Policies
For the return process on LuLaRoe, you need to go through the consultant (MLM officer), and they won’t respond on time, and there’s a higher chance you won’t get a refund, so it’s poor customer service. They have no central return system, so it’s like a gamble.
While Lululemon has a perfect return policy, you can easily return any defective or faulty items. Still, Lululemon’s return policies are not as generous as brands like Athleta, but far better than LuLaRoe.
Controversies and Problems
When it comes to the controversial and problematic issues, LuLaRoe has an end list. They have gone through multiple lawsuits and faced a government investigation. In comparison, Lululemon has had no such major scandals and is an ethical business providing good quality and good customer service.
LuLaRoe’s List of Issues:
- Clothes ripped easily.
- Accusation of many financial and emotional manipulations.
- Consultants are pressured for more sales.
- Exploded too fast and added 33,000 consultants in a single year.
- Co-founder Mark Stidham even thought about fleeing to the Bahamas to escape the legal consequences.
Amazon Prime made a dedicated documentary named ‘LuLaRich’ exposing their clothing empire scam. If you want to know more, LuLaRich is definitely recommended.
How Much Lululemon Paid Me For This Review?
Ahh, okay, today’s review has become more one-sided. Many of you will be wondering how much Lululemon pays me for this review. Well, not even a single penny. I don’t think they even know that we exist.
The only way Lululemon will pay me is through their affiliate program if you purchase any of their products through our affiliate link. Interestingly, even if you purchase from LuLaRoe, I will get even more affiliate commission. All the thoughts above are independent and unbiased. If you still think, do a simple Google bro. You will get thousands of similar blogs.
If you are still not convinced, I recommend you go through my review of Athleta vs Lululemon. Here, you will find how much I have criticised Lululemon compared to Athleta.
FAQs
What do people say online about LuLaRoe?
People mock LuLaRoe for their controversial and shady images, and also laugh at their wild prints. If you genuinely want to know what people thought, I recommend subreddits like r/lulano and r/antiMLM.
Why was LuLaRoe shut down?
LuLaRoe was never shut down, but it has faced many legal consequences. Honestly, I believe LuLaRoe should be stopped because they fail to provide quality and use an MLM scheme, which I consider fraudulent, detracting from their focus on quality.
How much do LuLaRoe consultants make?
The pay ranges of LuLaRoe consultants vary by their rank and the number of sales they make. You can expect somewhere from nothing to $62 per hour to earn as a LuLaRoe consultant.
